With Wisdom and Courage
Poto College House caters for 60+ boarders, both boys and girls from Years 9-13 in a 5 ½ day capacity. Established as a boys’ boarding house initially in 1924, College House is steeped in history and tradition. As a co-educational boarding establishment it is unique to the Wairarapa and is the College’s point of difference, offering an affordable option to remote rural children from the Wairarapa and those from neighbouring districts.
Boarding is an amazing experience for students. We strive to make it structured, fun and secure – a home away from home. Hostel life is filled with exciting activities with a strong emphasis on prep time in the evenings and support to take part in extra curricular activities.
Catering for years 9 – 13, WaiCol is a co-educational public school based in Masterton. They offer a comprehensive curriculum that gives learners the chance to excel in their chosen fields. Their goal is to create a thriving, student-centred learning environment, educating students for their future. Check out the video below to find out more.
The boarding costs for 2020 are $12,500 per year.
Casual boarders (maximum 3 nights per week) pay $75 per night.
A one-off bond payment of $750 is required for each student at all year levels at the beginning of their first year only.

All students have mandatory prep time after school to make sure they have a quiet space to complete homework and are supported in their learning outside the classroom.
Using the van trip system, all students are able to take part in any number of after school activities. The boarding house has two vans which are on the road every day to make sure students don’t miss any off-site extra curriculars.
